Brown, Canadians wash Indians away
VANCOUVER, British Columbia – Corey Brown’s three-run home run capped a five-run third inning and helped the Vancouver Canadians beat the Spokane Indians 7-3 in a rain-shortened Northwest League game Saturday at Nat Bailey Stadium.
The game was called in the top of the sixth inning and the second game of the doubleheader was postponed.
Indians starter Fabio Castillo lost his control in the third and he paid for it. After hitting J.D. Pruitt and Joshua Horton, Matthew Sulentic laced a double to right field to give the Canadians a 2-0 lead. Brown’s homer two batters later gave Vancouver a 5-0 advantage.
Jonathan Greene hit a two-run single for the Indians in the fifth before the game was called. Greene finished 2 for 3 with two RBIs and a run scored.
Castillo (1-3) took the loss for Spokane, allowing five runs on two hits while walking three in three innings.
Scott Hodsdon (3-0) earned the win for the Canadians, allowing three runs on four hits in 5 1/3 innings.
The loss dropped Spokane to 12-19 and into third place in the East Division.Vancouver improved to 16-15 on the season.
