Cougs just miss upset

The Spokesman-Review

The Washington State Cougars nearly pulled off the upset before falling to the Sydney Kings 102-101 on Monday in Australia.

Derrick Low tossed in 35 points for WSU, while Australia native Aron Baynes added 15 points and 15 rebounds. Daven Harmeling finished with 20 points and Kyle Weaver chipped in with 14 points and 10 assists.

Playing before a sell-out crowd the Cougs had a chance to beat Australia’s top professional team but Low’s final shot was off target.

Next up Down Under for the Cougars is the Southern Districts Spartans.

Auto racing

Spokane’s Shelby Thompson won the rain-delayed Inland Northwest Super Stock race at Spokane Raceway Park on Sunday.

Christian Roeder (Ephrata, Wash.) placed second, followed by Erick Hargraves (Yakima), Kevin Richards (Newman Lake) and Corey Allard (Sagle, Idaho).
