Jayhawks defeat Longhorns, win Big 12 title

Mario Chalmers had 21 points and No. 3 Kansas (27-4, 14-12) fought back from a 16-point deficit and beat the No. 15 Longhorns (22-8, 12-4) 90-86 Saturday in Lawrence, Kan., claiming its fifth Big 12 championship.

Texas’ freshman sensation Kevin Durant, a top candidate for national player of the year, hit all but four of his first 14 shots and scored 25 points in the first half but was only 3 of 8 in the second half to finish with 32.

(1) Ohio State 65, Michigan 61: At Ann Arbor, Mich., Greg Oden scored 12 of his 16 points in the second half to help the Buckeyes (27-3, 15-1 Big Ten) beat the Wolverines (20-11, 8-8).

(4) Wisconsin 52, Michigan State 50: At Madison, Wis., Kammron Taylor’s 3-pointer with 4 seconds remaining lifted the Badgers (27-4, 13-3 Big Ten) to a victory over the Spartans (21-10, 8-8).

Alando Tucker led Wisconsin with 26 points in his final home game.

(6) Memphis 64, SMU 61: At Dallas, Chris Douglas-Roberts had 19 points with the key basket late and the Tigers (27-3, 16-0 C-USA) won their 19th straight game to complete a perfect record in Conference USA with an unexpectedly difficult victory over the Mustangs (14-16, 3-13).

(7) Texas A&M 94, Missouri 78: At College Station, Texas, Antanas Kavaliauskas scored a career-high 26 points to lead the Aggies (25-5, 13-3) to a win over the Tigers (18-11, 7-9) in the regular-season finale for both teams.

(9) Georgetown 59, Connecticut 46: At Washington, Roy Hibbert had 18 points and 12 rebounds, and the Hoyas (23-6, 13-3) clinched a least a share of the Big East regular-season championship with a victory over the Huskies (17-13, 6-10).

(20) Marquette 75, (12) Pittsburgh 71: At Milwaukee, Wesley Matthews and David Cubillan scored 20 points each to help the Golden Eagles (23-8, 10-6 Big East) beat the Panthers (25-6, 12-4).

(18) Butler 67, Loyola of Chicago 66 (OT): At Fairborn, Ohio, A.J. Graves hit six foul shots in the final 53 seconds of overtime to lead the Bulldogs (27-5) to a victory over the Ramblers (21-11) in the semifinals of the Horizon League tournament.

Arkansas 82, (19) Vanderbilt 67: At Nashville, Tenn., Gary Ervin scored 21 points, and the Razorbacks (18-12, 7-9 SEC) upset the Commodores (20-10, 10-6) to keep the Razorbacks’ slim NCAA tournament hopes alive.

(22) Notre Dame 73, Rutgers 66: At Piscataway, N.J., Colin Falls scored 22 points to lead the Fighting Irish (23-6, 11-5 Big East) to a victory over the Scarlet Knights (10-19, 3-13) in the regular-season finale for both teams.

(24) Maryland 79, North Carolina State 59: At College Park, Md., Mike Jones scored 21 points in his final home game to lead the Terrapins (24-7, 10-6) to a win over the Wolfpack (15-14, 5-11).

Brandon Costner led N.C. State with 20 points.

Atlantic Sun

Belmont 94, East Tennessee State 67: At Johnson City, Tenn., Andy Wicke and Andrew Preston had 18 points apiece and the Bruins (23-9) won their conference tournament championship and an NCCA bid by defeating the Bucs (24-9).

Southern Conference

Davidson 72, College of Charleston 65: At North Charleston, S.C., Stephen Curry scored 29 points and the Wildcats (29-4) returned to the NCAA tournament with a win over the Cougars (22-10) in the conference championship.

Big South

Winthrop 84, VMI 81: At Rock Hill, S.C., Torrell Martin had 17 points to lead the Eagles (28-4) to a victory over the Keydets (14-19) in the Big South Conference championship, clinching an NCAA tournament spot.

Ohio Valley

Eastern Kentucky 63, Austin Peay 62: At Nashville, Tenn., Josh Taylor converted a layup with 2.9 seconds left and the Colonels (21-11) beat the Governors (21-11) for the Ohio Valley Conference tournament championship and trip to the NCAAs.

Ivy League

Pennsylvania 86, Yale 58: At Philadelphia, Mark Zoller had 22 points, 17 rebounds and six assists, and the Quakers (20-8) beat the Bulldogs (13-13) on Friday to claim their third straight league title and earn an NCAA berth.
