LC’s Baker leads North Idaho contingent named all-state
Six North Idaho high school basketball players were named to All-Idaho (all-state) first teams.
Lake City sophomore post Katie Baker was named the 5A player of the year. Joining her on the first team were Coeur d’Alene senior point guard Lindsey Stark and sophomore wing Kama Griffitts.
The other area first-team selections were Bonners Ferry senior wing Becky Lowther and Kellogg sophomore post Amanda Seeling in 3A and Wallace senior point guard Cara Hayman in 1A.
The teams were voted on by coaches statewide and announced by the Idaho Statesman newspaper in Boise.
Ten other area players were named to second teams. They are: Lewiston senior point guard Shane Moser and CdA senior guard Nate Bligh; CdA junior post Deanna Dotts and LC senior post Riki Moreland; Lakeland senior point guard Natalie Nichols; Moscow senior guard Shane Miller; Kellogg senior guard Steph Cantrall; Coeur d’Alene Charter senior forward David Baker; Wallace senior forward Lisa Carver; and Kootenai senior guard Cassie Scheffelmaier.
Baker led LC to a 46-40 win over CdA in the state title game. She averaged 14.9 points and 8.1 rebounds. She shared the player of the year honor in the Inland Empire League with Griffitts, who averaged 14.1 points and 5.1 rebounds. Stark, who took on a more limited scoring role when she switched from shooting guard to point, averaged six points and 4.3 assists.
Stark and Griffitts were second-team All-Idaho picks last year.
Lowther led BF with 14 points and six rebounds. She was a second-team selection last year. Seeling led Kellogg with 15 points and seven rebounds. She also was the player of the year in the Intermountain League.
Hayman, a second-team All-Idaho selection last year, led Wallace with 16.4 points, 4.6 assists and 3.6 steals.
Other players of the year were: Matt Hansen of Madison (5A); Colton Moon and Jessica Brice, both of Burley (4A); Darryl Simons of Shelley and Madeline Brown of Sugar-Salem (3A); and Ray Stout of Genesee and Cassie Wood of Richfield (1A).
Track meet
The 15th annual Christina Finney coed relays will be held Friday at Post Falls High School.
The field includes all the Inland Empire League schools and Timberlake. The meet begins at 1 p.m. with field events. Running finals begin with the 3,200 meters at 2.
