GU should leave WCC
Gonzaga and Boise State should capitalize on their name recognition and switch to the Mountain West Conference.
The WCC is likely to always be a second-tier, California-dominated league known for its lack of defense. The Mountain West, on the other hand, is composed of teams that are the best in their region for the most part and only has eight teams.
Utah played in the national title game in basketball a few years ago and UNLV was in the Sweet 16 this year.
With other schools with name recognition, the conference schedule would be exciting. Can you imagine how many fans a meaningful conference tournament would bring to Spokane?
Adding Boise State for football would have given the conference two top-15 teams last season (with BYU) and bolster arguments for better bowl consideration. The conference then would represent the best of a region stretching the full length of the Rockies.
