Pushing the limit of friendship
Randy LaBeff of Spokane, who took up fly fishing last year as a prophylactic measure against a midlife crisis, has already mastered some of the finer points of fly fishing success – such as taking your fly rod when business drags you close to a fabled Montana trout stream.
While most Inland Northwest streams were blown out with runoff last week, LaBeff joined a guide to fish the tailrace waters of the Big Horn River. The novice fly fisher also has mastered the traditional angler art of provocation. Along with six digital photos, he e-mailed this message home:
“I caught at least 30 fish and lost that many more. Most were rainbows. Lost a big brown. It was the best trout fishing I ever had. We used Sow Bugs and midges. I hope we are still friends.”
