Cubs 8-7, Pirates 6-1: At Pittsburgh, Jason Marquis limited the Pirates to four hits over eight innings to win his fourth consecutive start as Chicago beat the Pirates in the second game. A half hour before that game started, the Cubs completed a win in a game suspended by rain on Tuesday.

Astros 3, Reds 1: At Houston, Roy Oswalt pitched eight stellar innings and rookie Hunter Pence got his first career RBI to lead the Astros over Cincinnati.

Dodgers 2, Diamondbacks 1: At Los Angeles, former Washington State Cougar Mark Hendrickson allowed three hits over six-plus innings to lead the Dodgers over Arizona.

Braves 4, Phillies 3: At Atlanta, Chipper Jones had a two-run double and the Braves held off Philadelphia.

Mets 6, Marlins 3: At New York, Oliver Perez struck out a season-high 10 and singled twice to start rallies, helping New York beat Florida.

Brewers 4, Cardinals 0: At Milwaukee, Carlos Villanueva pitched four scoreless innings of relief for injured starter Chris Capuano, helping the Brewers complete a sweep of St. Louis.

Padres 7, Nationals 3: At San Diego, Adrian Gonzalez hit his eighth home run of the season to lead a win over Washington.

Giants 5, Rockies 3: At San Francisco, Barry Bonds’ ninth home run of the season and 743rd of his career – a two-run shot in the fourth inning – sparked the Giants to a victory over Colorado.
