Dodgers 6, Marlins 1: At Miami, Brad Penny struck out a career-high 14 and allowed only five baserunners in seven shutout innings, helping Los Angeles beat Florida. Penny walked none and gave up five hits.

Astros 5, Reds 4: At Cincinnati, Luke Scott hit a tiebreaking, three-run homer in the eighth inning, helping Houston beat the Reds. Roy Oswalt allowed only six hits in seven innings for the Astros.

Brewers 3, Nationals 0: At Milwaukee, Chris Capuano struck out a season-high nine, Geoff Jenkins hit a homer and the Brewers won for the eighth time in nine games, beating Washington.

Padres 4, Braves 2: At Atlanta, Chris Young struck out eight in six innings, and San Diego beat the Braves. Young struck out seven in the first four innings.

Rockies 3, Cardinals 2: At St. Louis, Brad Hawpe drew a full-count walk with the bases loaded in the ninth inning for the tiebreaking run in Colorado’s victory over the Cardinals.

Diamondbacks 4, Phillies 3: At Phoenix, Carlos Quentin hit a tiebreaking single in the eighth inning, leading Arizona over Philadelphia. Batting .203 at the start of the night, Quentin also doubled and scored.

Giants 9, Mets 4: At San Francisco, Bengie Molina hit a disputed two-run homer in the fifth, then added a three-run drive later in the same inning, helping the Giants defeat New York.
