Jayson Miller allowed one run on four hits through eight innings to lead Washington State to a 5-3 series-deciding Pacific-10 Conference baseball victory Sunday at Corvallis, Ore.

Ross Humes took over on the mound to start the ninth inning. Humes surrendered a two-run homer to OSU’s Mike Lissman to make it 5-3, but, with runners on first and second and one out, got Lonnie Lechelt to hit into a game-ending double play.

The Cougars (25-22, 8-13) took two of three from the 15th-ranked defending national champion Beavers (36-13, 8-10) to win their second Pac-10 series in a row.

•Stanford pounded out 16 hits, eight for extra bases, and beat Washington 10-7 at Stanford, Calif.

The Cardinal (21-27, 6-15) won their first conference series of the season. Washington fell to 26-23 and 9-9.

•Gonzaga University dropped a 4-3 West Coast Conference game in 11 innings to Pepperdine to wrap up the conference portion of its schedule, at Malibu, Calif.

Pepperdine’s Adrian Ortiz singled to right center off Bulldogs’ starter Brandon Harmon with one out in the 10th inning to win it.

Harmon pitched his team-leading sixth complete game of the season.

Gonzaga University won the Women’s Novice Eight championship for the second straight year at the Pacific-10 Conference championships on Lake Natoma outside Sacramento, Calif.

Their time of 7 minutes, 6.43 seconds easily outdistanced the University of Washington (7:11.43).

Gonzaga placed second in the Women’s Varsity Four race.

Washington State’s men’s and women’s rowing teams each finished seventh in the final team standings.
