Bonnell can leave UW with his head held high
SEATTLE – If this is it for Carl Bonnell, the senior quarterback can look back and smile, knowing that his last start was a win.
He can be happy knowing he walked away from Husky Stadium a winner after helping his team to a 37-23 win over Cal.
When the Apple Cup kicks off Saturday, there’s a good chance that Jake Locker will be back for Washington from the neck injury that kept him out this weekend.
“It’s huge,” Bonnell said of the win. “Being the backup as a senior, you don’t really know what your history is going to look like. You’d like to be able to look back and say, ‘I did some things.’ And I don’t think I really got to that point, so today is awesome. I’ll look back the rest of my life at the Cal game and say, ‘Hey, we beat a tough team at home under tough circumstances.’ “
Perhaps no quarterback will look back so fondly on a 7-for-19 effort. Perhaps no quarterback will someday think about a game in which he passed for 108 yards and smile the way Bonnell will.
