Locker, the hits keep coming

The Spokesman-Review

Jake Locker seems like a fine young man, so here’s a word of warning: Wise up!

When a USC defender standing out of bounds squares up on you and delivers a punishing hit after you’ve taken two steps out of bounds, it’s because he has his orders: “Take that guy out!”

Fifteen yards for a personal foul is a small price to pay. And Pac-10 officials demand that you take it like a man. If you duck your head to avoid a Beavers helmet to the chin, don’t even look for a flag. Three more years of getting carted off the field and answering the question, “Was that the hardest hit you’ve ever taken?” is a long time.

My advice is to skip the next couple of Pac-10 games and take your chances against WAC defenders at Hawaii. Then try out for the baseball team in the spring.
