Women’s Top 25: No. 2 UConn routs Old Dominion

Tina Charles had 15 points and seven rebounds to lead No. 2 Connecticut to an 86-43 victory against Old Dominion on Friday night at the Paradise Jam in Charlotte Amalie, U.S. Virgin Islands.

Connecticut (4-0) also got 12 points from Renee Montgomery and 10 points apiece from Maya Moore and Kalana Greene.

The Huskies started slow, falling behind halfway through the first period, but pulled ahead 37-20 by halftime and buried the Lady Monarchs in the second half.

T.J. Jordan led Old Dominion (3-1) with 13 points.

Trailing 14-13 with 10:52 to play, Connecticut rattled off nine unanswered points. They ended the half on 15-1 run that included four baskets by Charles from close range to go ahead 37-20.

The Huskies shot 65 percent from the floor and held Old Dominion to 29 percent, including 3 for 18 from behind the arc.

In the tournament championship on Sunday, Connecticut will face No. 9 Duke.

(3) Maryland 75, UC Santa Barbara 71: At Santa Barbara, Calif., Marissa Coleman scored 30 points and Kristi Toliver hit two free throws to help the Terrapins (7-0) clinch a victory over the Gauchos (2-3).

Toliver also scored 19 points for the Terps and Laura Harper added 15 points and 12 rebounds. Coleman sank 18 of 20 free-throw attempts.

(8) Georgia 78, Prairie View A&M 44: At Freeport, Bahamas, Tasha Humphrey scored 15 points as the Bulldogs (5-0) got the victory over the Panthers (1-5).

Ashley Houts scored 13 points and Megan Darrah added 10 for the Bulldogs.

(9) Duke 64, Temple 53: At Charlotte Amalie, U.S. Virgin Islands, Carrem Gay had 13 points and the Blue Devils (5-0) beat the Owls (1-3).

Chante Black had 13 points and Jasmine Thomas added 11 for Duke.
