Valley Girl Triathlon field full
No slacking is allowed in the (Spokane) Valley Girl Triathlon, not even in the entry process.
Online registration opened Monday at 12:01 a.m. and all 550 slots were filled 9 hours and 32 minutes later.
The women-only swim-bike-run race isn’t until July 13.
College golf
Whitworth’s women, led by individual runner-up Sophia Sestero, collected the first team victory in the five years of the program with a 22-shot margin over Community Colleges of Spokane in the Centralia CC Invitational that wound up Monday in Chehalis, Wash.
Sestero shot a 22-over 166 to lead the Pirates’ 506-528 margin over CCS. Katie Sorenson of CCS was sixth at 174.
In the men’s event, Whitworth was fourth at 602 and CCS fifth at 605 behind winner Walla Walla CC’s 587.
Matthew Strandberg of CCS tied for fourth at 147. Ryan Young led the Pirates with a 148.
•Gonzaga sophomore Brandon Crick shot a 6-under-par 207 that included a 5-under 66 in the second round to win the Shootout at Angel Park that came to an end Sunday in Las Vegas.
Because of unknown difficulties at the site, the results were not released until Monday night.
Gonzaga finished seventh in the 17-team field with an 880.
Women’s soccer
Abby Jensen, an Eastern Washington senior from Sandpoint who scored three goals as the Eagles split two games last week, is the Big Sky Conference Offensive Player of the Week.
Cross country
Idaho’s Diego Moreno-Guzman and Mandy Macalister, the top collegiate finishers in the Charles Bowles Invitational in Salem, Ore., Saturday, are the Western Athletic Conference Cross Country Athletes of the Week.
Moreno-Guzman, a junior, covered 8K in 24 minutes, 30.95 seconds and was ninth overall in just his third cross country race. Macalister, a senior, was second overall, clocking 17:24.75 for 5K.
High school soccer
Kaley Way, Dee Dee Garbe and Missy Carey scored two goals each to lead West Valley to an 8-0 Great Northern League win at Medical Lake.
