Several Valley churches are stepping up to provide an alternative to traditional door-to-door trick-or-treating on Halloween. Some activities are held on Halloween while others are taking place this weekend.

Foothills Community Church – 11102 N. Forker Road, will host its annual Harvest Fun Night, beginning with a chili feed from 5-7:30 p.m. Wednesday. The harvest party will be from 5:30-8 p.m., including a pie social, live music, quilt show and carnival games.

Dishman Baptist Church – 315 N. Argonne Road, will host a Harvest Kids Carnival, 6-8 p.m. Wednesday. The evening will include free hot dogs, games, candy, pony rides and a bouncing castle.

Opportunity Christian Church – 708 N. Pines Road, will have a Halloween carnival Sunday from 5-7 p.m. Those attending are encouraged to wear a costume. There will be a costume parade, crafts, games and treats.

Zion Lutheran Church – 8304 E. Buckeye, plans pumpkin carving on Halloween. The church will host dinner, pumpkin carving and trunk-or-treating from 6-7:30 p.m. The cost is $2 per person or $5 per family.

Spokane Valley United Methodist Church – 115 N. Raymond Road, plans trunk-or-treating, hosted by the youth, today from 4-6 p.m. Children through the fifth grade should wear a costume. There will also be donuts and cider.

Redeemer Lutheran Church – 3606 S. Schafer Road, plans the Great Pumpkin Plunge Wednesday. At 6:30 p.m., there will be candy, food and games. The star of the evening is a 600-pound pumpkin that will be hoisted in the air and dropped in the parking lot at 8. The event is free.
