Freeman’s Max Riggs found Brandon Saiki in the end zone with 1:17 left to play in the fourth quarter, but an overthrown pass on the two-point conversion helped Kettle Falls prevail with a 14-13 season-opening Northeast A League win Friday in Kettle Falls.
The Bulldogs built a 14-0 halftime lead, but the Scotties responded with 13 points in the second half and chose to go for the win instead of the tie.
Lucas Fox led Kettle Falls with 121 yards on 21 carries and two touchdowns.
In other Northeast A League action, Reid Chivers scored three first-half touchdowns to lead Lakeside (Nine Mile Falls) to a 41-0 rout of host Chewelah. Eric Van Meter added 122 yards on 10 carries and scored two touchdowns for the Eagles. … Colfax beat host Newport 30-10.
