Zags sweep to 3rd straight win
Gonzaga University won its third straight volleyball match Monday with a 30-26, 30-22, 30-26 sweep of visiting Montana.
For the Bulldogs (5-3), who defeated the Grizzlies (3-4) by the same score on Aug. 25, it’s the first time since the 1997 campaign they have had five sweeping victories in a season.
Becky Jones continued to roll for GU, finishing with her third straight double-double. The senior finished with 11 kills and 11 digs. She also had one assist and one block assist.
Sophomore Michelle Boevers was also a key factor, adding a match-high 12 kills, in addition to six digs, three blocks and two service aces.
Senior Heather Dunn passed out 39 assists as the Bulldogs tallied 49 team kills and a .271 attacking percentage. Dunn, who had her team-leading fifth double-double, added 10 digs, two kills and two block assists.
Gonzaga only allowed two Montana players to finish with five or more kills, including Jade Roskam, who closed out the match with 11. Roskam also had four digs, two block assists and one service ace. Amy Roberts was the other Griz to have five or more kills, finishing with seven.
Setter Taryn Wright dished out 24 assists as UM finished with 35 team kills and a .116 hitting percentage.
Gonzaga will be back in action Sept. 7-8 when its partakes in the University of New Mexico Tournament.
