Earth Day events
Environmental-themed films, a cleanup of Sandpoint’s Sand Creek and a low-carbon café are among the region’s Earth Day activities.
Events start this evening and run through April 25.
Today
“”Cadillac Desert”: The first of a four-part PBS series airs at 6:30 p.m. at North Idaho College’s Molstead Library, 1000 W. Garden Ave., Coeur d’Alene. Based on Marc Reisner’s book, the series tells of the story of the epic quest for water and its role in transforming the American West. The remaining three films run on subsequent Wednesdays through May 7. The series is sponsored by The Human Rights Education Institute and Kootenai Environmental Alliance. It’s free.
“”The Forest for the Trees”: An hour-long film about activist Judi Bari starts at 6:30 p.m. at the Moot Court Room at Gonzaga Law School, 721 N. Cincinnati St., Spokane. Discussion to follow. “Sand Creek Cleanup in Bonner County: From 9 a.m. – noon. Meet at the courtyard next to the Cedar Street Bridge. Cleanup will begin at the Cedar Street Bridge and volunteers clean their way to the Old Power House. Prizes and awards will be given out, as well as free rubber gloves and garbage bags. “Sandpoint Earth Day Festival: The event includes Earth arts and crafts for kids by the Arts Alliance and outdoor games by Twin Eagles Wilderness School. Presentations will be given on wolves, the Rock Creek Mine, global warming, native landscaping and water quality, and will kick off with a photo slideshow tribute to North Idaho by local photographer Woods Wheatcroft.
