Madison McLeod was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the bottom of the fourth inning to force in what proved the winning run as Lewis and Clark beat East Valley 5-4 in Greater Spokane League softball Monday at Hart Field. Kelsey Kurtz had a two-run triple in a three-run third inning for EV, which let a 4-0 lead get away.

Elsewhere in GSL makeup games, Mollie Buelow pitched a no-hitter, striking out five and walking two, and Ali Warren went 3 for 5 with a double, triple and five RBIs, to lead University past visiting Ferris 16-0 in five innings. … Stefani Siddoway had a home run among two hits and Alexa Morales had two triples among three hits to lead a 15-hit assault for Central Valley in a 24-3 win at Gonzaga Prep in five innings. … Mt. Spokane at Shadle Park was postponed.

Riley Swanson’s two-run home run in the first inning started Clarkston on the way to a 6-3 win at Cheney in the first game of a Great Northern League doubleheader. Kayla Burke’s two-run homer highlighted a three-run eighth inning as the Bantams completed a sweep with a 10-7, extra-inning win. Sarah Schoengold, 4 for 8 during the day for Cheney, had two triples in the second game.

Baseball

A six-run second inning, that featured back-to-back home runs by Tyler Druffel (for two runs) and Michael Scourey, sparked Pullman to a 9-8 win over visiting West Valley in the second game of a Great Northern League doubleheader, dealing the Eagles their first league loss. WV won the opener 13-2 behind Andy Vennum’s 13-strikeout, six-hit pitching. Jeremy Fernandez capped it with a two-run homer in the seventh.

Soccer

Mackenzie Olivares converted a feed from Jack Gilles 46 minutes in to give Lewis and Clark at 1-0 GSL win at Gonzaga Prep.

Dustin Howerton scored early and late for Deer Park on assists from Jack Robertson in a 2-0 Great Northern League win over visiting Medical Lake.

Golf

University junior Hank Frame shot a 5-under-par 67 for boys medalist honors in the fourth Greater Spokane League competition, at Indian Canyon. Mead senior Erick Henderson was second at 68. Lewis and Clark claimed team honors, 374-397 over Gonzaga Prep.

“Sophomore Chessey Thomas of Lewis and Clark shot a 1-under 73 for a four-shot margin over Mead senior Lauren Howell to lead the Tigers to a 436-491 margin over the Panthers in the girls division.
