Triano still winless after Blake’s late 3 sinks Toronto
LaMarcus Aldridge scored 20 points, Steve Blake made a clutch 3-pointer with nine seconds left, and the Portland Trail Blazers spoiled Raptor coach Jay Triano’s home debut with a 98-97 victory on Sunday at Toronto.
Jermaine O’Neal scored a season-high 24 points and blocked six shots and Chris Bosh added 19 points, but it wasn’t enough to give Triano his first win as the Raptors lost their fourth straight game.
A basket by Brandon Roy pulled the Blazers even at 95-95 with 49 seconds left, but Bosh stepped back to sink a 14-foot jumper with 27 seconds to go.
Blake then drained his 3 over Jose Calderon, and Bosh missed his final shot. Blake finished with 19 points.
Calderon had 15 points and 13 assists for Toronto.
The 50-year-old Triano, a former longtime Canadian national team player and coach, became the NBA’s first Canadian head coach on Wednesday when he was named Sam Mitchell’s replacement on an interim basis.
•Pistons can’t win on Sunday: Chris Duhon had 25 points and nine assists, Quentin Richardson scored 23, and the Knicks blew most of a 29-point lead before holding on to snap a three-game losing streak with a 104-92 win at New York.
The Knicks dropped the Pistons to 0-5 on Sundays. Detroit is 11-3 on other days of the week.

Arizona State rips Huskers
James Harden had 20 points, nine rebounds and had six assists to lead No. 19 Arizona State past Nebraska 64-44 in the Pac 10-Big 12 series at Tempe, Ariz.
Rihards Kuksiks added career highs of 18 points and six rebounds and Ty Abbott scored 15 points, including three 3-pointers, and grabbed eight rebounds for the Sun Devils (7-1), who are off to their best start since going 7-1 in 1991-92.
•Missouri routs Cal: DeMarre Carroll had 19 points and six rebounds and helped fuel an early 18-point run that put Missouri in control in a 93-66 victory over California at Columbia, Mo.
Jerome Randle had 15 points for California (6-2), which has dropped two of three after a 5-0 start.
•Pitt upsets No. 8 Maryland: Shavonte Zellous scored 20 of her 26 points in the second half to lead No. 24 Pittsburgh to an 86-57 upset of No. 8 Maryland at Pittsburgh.
Xenia Stewart had 22 points for Pittsburgh (6-1), which won its sixth straight and beat a top 10 opponent for the second time in school history.

Nelson wins with son
Larry Nelson made a 20-foot birdie putt on the 17th hole and went on to a 10-under 62 with his son Drew to become the first player to win the Del Webb Father-Son Championship at Champions Gate Golf Club in Orlando, Fla., two straight years with different sons.
Nelson, a three-time major champion in the World Golf Hall of Fame, won the Father-Son last year with son Josh. He and Drew also won the tournament four years ago.
The Nelsons finished at 21-under 123 for a two-shot victory over Davis Love III and his 15-year-old son, Dru.
•Stenson wins in Sun City: Henrik Stenson of Sweden shot a 4-under 68, cruising to a nine-shot win ahead of American Kenny Perry at the Nedbank Golf Challenge at Sun City, South Africa.
Stenson finished with a 21-under 267 total for the second-largest winning margin in the history of the tournament, behind Nick Price’s 12-shot triumph in 1993.
•Ogilvy wins Aussie Open: Geoff Ogilvy can cross another accomplishment off his list — winning a golf tournament in his home country.
The 2006 U.S. Open champion won the Australian PGA by two strokes at Coolum, Australia, closing with a 3-under-par 69 at the Hyatt Regency resort course.

Longhorns DE wins Nagurski Trophy
Texas defensive end Brian Orakpo spent a frustrating Saturday night watching the Longhorns’ hopes of playing for the national championship dashed.
Orakpo finally got a reason to celebrate Sunday night, when he beat out three other finalists to win the Bronko Nagurski Trophy, awarded by the Charlotte Touchdown Club in Charlotte, N.C., to the nation’s top defensive player.
•Holtz eyes Syracuse job: East Carolina coach Skip Holtz hopes to meet with Syracuse’s athletic director, but said he is not close to accepting the Orange’s head coaching job.
Holtz led the Pirates to a 27-24 win at Tulsa in the Conference USA championship game Saturday. East Carolina (9-4) will play Kentucky in the Liberty Bowl.

Raich wins giant slalom
Benjamin Raich of Austria captured a World Cup giant slalom title, edging Ted Ligety of the United States by 0.01 seconds.
Raich won in a combined time of 2 minutes, 24.61 seconds. Ligety led after the first leg but couldn’t make up ground on Raich at the bottom of the Birds of Prey course at Beaver Creek, Colo.
Aksel Lund Svindal of Norway finished third, 0.10 seconds behind Raich. Svindal earlier won the downhill and super-G at Beaver Creek a year after his horrific crash there.
• Fanchini wins women’s race: Nadia Fanchini of Italy won the season-opening super giant slalom at Lake Louise, Alberta.
She was timed in 1 minute, 20.97 seconds, with Fabienne Suter of Switzerland and Andrea Fischbacher of Austria sharing second in 1:21.25.
•USC wins water polo title: Shea Buckner scored three goals, including one on a penalty shot, and Southern California beat Stanford 7-5 to win the NCAA men’s water polo championship at Stanford, Calif.
USC won its fourth title.
•Bohn III, Dorin-Ballard win on PBA Tour: Parker Bohn III beat Mike Scroggins 242-198 and Carolyn Dorin-Ballard edged Stefanie Nation 208-204 to win titles at the PBA Tour’s Cheetah Championship at Cheektoaga, N.Y.
•U.S. wins U-20 World Cup: The United States won the women’s under-20 World Cup at Santiago, Chile, beating defending champion North Korea 2-1 on first-half goals from Sydney Leroux and Alex Morgan.
