Thomas sparks Huskies
SEATTLE – Freshman guard Isaiah Thomas scored a career-high 27 points and Jon Brockman grabbed the 1,000th rebound of his career Tuesday night as Washington extended its winning streak to seven, beating Morgan State 81-67 in non-conference men’s basketball.
Senior center Brockman, who sat out nearly 11 minutes of the second half after picking up his fourth foul with 16:55 left in the game, added 18 points for the Huskies (9-3). He finished the night with five rebounds, giving him 1,004. He is within 47 rebounds of the UW career record of 1,051 set by Doug Smart.
Thomas, who hit 9 of 17 from the floor and 8 of 9 from the free-throw line, had his previous career high of 19 points on Nov. 20 against Florida International.
Reggie Holmes led Morgan State (5-8) with 16 points. Jermaine Bolden had 15 points, and Marquise Kately chipped in 14.
Washington stretched its lead to as many as 11 points midway through the second half, but the Bears never let the Huskies pull away until late in the game.
