Leg check should be foul
Recently in a Greater Spokane League basketball game, a defensive player stuck out his left leg to impede the offensive player. The coach questioned the official and was told the player just ran into the outstretched leg and that it was not a foul.
If the player had used his hip, he would be called for blocking. If he had used his arm, he would have been called for holding.
I want to see consistency in the officiating in all games that I watch, and I think that is the case 90 percent or more most of the time. Even if I did not agree, I went with the official. I believe they are doing their best.
I would like for an official to respond to my concern about leg blocking. If I am wrong, I would accept some analysis. I believe I am correct because I don’t think a leg sticking out is a natural checking position.
