U-Hi scores important win

Mason Johnson scored 24 points and handed out five assists to lead the University Titans to a Greater Spokane League boys basketball win Saturday over the visiting East Valley Knights, 60-49, a victory critical to keeping U-Hi’s hopes alive to reach the postseason.

Andrew Pirttima added 11 points for U-Hi, which outscored EV 20-13 in the second quarter to take a six-point lead into halftime. Danny Marshall led the Knights with 24 points and 14 rebounds.

EV committed 18 turnovers.

The Titans improved to 6-11 and the Knights fell to 1-15.

Gonzaga Prep 47, Lewis and Clark 45: Michael Stockton led four players in double figures with 14 points and Gonzaga Prep used a big second-half rally to defeat host Lewis and Clark.

Travis Long had 12 points, Ryan Nicholas scored 11 and Sean Fischer added 10 for the Bullpups.

G-Prep came alive in the second half, outscoring the Tigers 28-16 to erase a 10-point halftime deficit.

Nicholas scored in the paint with 1 minute, 7 seconds left to give the Bullpups a 46-45 lead. G-Prep’s first lead had come with 2:30 remaining

Danny Peterson tallied a game-high 22 points to lead LC, but he missed a jumper with 1.7 seconds remaining that would have given the Tigers the lead.

G-Prep improved to 13-5 while LC fell to 3-13.

Shadle Park 51, Mead 46: Anthony Brown scored 13 points and Robby Douglas added 12 as the Highlanders defeated the Panthers at Spokane Falls CC.

Zack Humphrey had nine points and Aaron Dunn and Taylor Pettersen added seven apiece for Shadle, which outscored Mead 19-7 in the second quarter to take a 30-25 lead into halftime.

Kyle Baird scored a game-high 14 points and Brendan Ingebritsen added 12 to lead the Panthers.

The Highlanders improved to 16-2 while Mead fell to 9-9.

North Central 50, Central Valley 45: David Butler scored a game-high 17 points on 7-of-11 shooting and grabbed five rebounds to guide the Indians to a victory over the host Bears.

D.J. Scott had 10 points and Nick Rijon and Isaiah Antoine added eight points apiece for NC, which outscored CV 17-11 in the third quarter to take an eight-point lead into the fourth.

NC improved to 7-10 while CV fell to 10-9 and 9-9 in the GSL.
