Cougars get rare road win

Alexa Price scored a game-high 16 points and the Washington State Cougars blistered the nets with 13 3-pointers – one short of a school record – and went on to a 67-54 Pacific-10 Conference victory over the Arizona Wildcats at Tucson, Ariz.

Heather Molzen, Katie Appleton and Kezia Kelly chipped in 12 points apiece for Washington State (5-22, 2-14), which won on the road in conference play for the first time since a 58-41 win over Oregon State on Dec. 21, 2006.

It was the Cougars’ first win in Tucson since Jan. 8, 1998 (64-61).

The Cougars hit 13 of 29 3-pointers. Price was 4 of 5. Molzen, Appelton and Kelly each hit two.

Ebonee Coats added 11 rebounds and two blocks, and Appleton dished out five assists for the Cougars.

Ify Ibekwe scored 15 points to lead Arizona (9-18, 3-13).

Northern Colorado 71, Eastern Washington 56: At Cheney, Courtney Stoermer had 21 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists to lead the Bears (12-13, 6-6) past the Eagles (4-22, 1-12) in Big Sky Conference play.

Jamie Schroeder contributed 16 points, Danielle Hagen 15 points and nine rebounds, and Kate Kevorken 13 points for Northern Colorado.

For Eastern Washington, Sydney Benson had a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Tatjana Sparavalo had 18 points and Nicole Scott 13.

CC Spokane 69, Big Bend 52: At Spokane Falls CC, Ashlee Michelson made 8 of 10 field goals on her way to a team-high 17 points to lead the Sasquatch (19-7, 10-4) past the Vikings (14-13, 4-10) in an NWAACC game.

Spokane will be the East Division’s No. 3 seed when the conference tournament begins Thursday at Kennewick.
