Bengals nip Eagles

POCATELLO, Idaho – Donnie Carson hit 3 of 4 free throws down the stretch Thursday night to lift Idaho State to a 58-56 men’s basketball victory over Eastern Washington.

Carson, who finished with 11 points, hit two free throws with 37 seconds left, and added another with 21 seconds left, giving Idaho State (5-10, 2-0 Big Sky) a lead that Eastern (7-11, 2-2) couldn’t overcome.

The second half was marked by several lead changes, with neither team leading by more than six points.

Forward Logan Kinghorn scored 14 points for the winners and center Lucas Steijn had 13.

The Eagles were led by guard Milan Stanojevic, who came off the bench to score 19 points, hitting 5 of 10 3-point attempts. Adris DeLeon had 13 points for EWU and forward Kellen Williams had 11 points and eight rebounds.

EWU led 18-4 with 10:30 left in the first half, but Idaho State rallied to tie the game at 20 with 3:47 remaining. The Bengals led 26-22 at halftime.
