The Spokesman-Review

Lewis and Clark continues to be untouchable in Greater Spokane League basketball.

The Tigers (13-0) cruised past Shadle Park 56-41 Friday night at Spokane Falls Community College in a game between the league leaders and GSL co-second-place team.

They were tied 18-18 at half, but LC hit four 3-pointers in the third quarter and forced turnovers out of its press en route to a 22-10 advantage to take command of the game.

Emily Travis had two of the 3-pointers. She finished with three for the night and 11 points. Kelsey Baker and Kiki January had the other 3-pointers.

The Tigers also got solid inside play from team scoring leader Jeneva Baker and Sarah Kliewer.

Baker scored 12 points and Kliewer added nine.

The Highlanders (11-3) were led by double-figure scorers Lexie Pettersen and Bianca Pope, who combined for 23 points.

The loss dropped Shadle a game behind Mead in the loss column. The Panthers were idle.

University 63, Mt. Spokane 33: The host Titans (9-4) bolted to a 16-3 first-quarter lead and outscored the Wildcats (4-9) 20-8 in the third period for an easy win. Zoe Scott hit three 3-pointers en route to 17 points. She was one of five players, including Kasey Jurich (13) and Riki Schiermeister (10), who was either in double figures or a basket away.

Gonzaga Prep 56, Central Valley 54: The visiting Bullpups (6-8) enhanced their playoff chances while handing the Bears (7-7) their second straight two-point loss. Gonzaga built an early 11-0 lead, which proved to be enough. CV shot only 27 percent from the field but nearly caught up. Bullpups freshman standout Tia Presley and Jensen Sayman continue to provide the scoring punch, combining for 40 points. The Bears had three double-figure scorers, led by Lindsey Gigler’s 15.

Ferris 38, North Central 37: The host Saxons (6-8) just did manage to pull out victory over the Indians (4-10) when Courtney Hatch hit a 30-footer for the winning score. Liz Boyden continued to be Ferris’ offensive leader, scoring a game-high 14 points. Nicole Graybeal had 10 for NC.

East Valley 71, Rogers 35: The Knights (3-10) ran and shot their way to a wide victory at Rogers (0-13), giving EV a sweep of the night’s games, while the Pirates won the Gauntlet spirit award. Junior Kelsi Jacobson had 10 field goals, four of them 3-pointers, for 24 points. It was her third game eclipsing 20 points this year. Senior post Kathy Tate added a season-high 22 points for the victors. Jesica Carpenter and Chung Huynh were both double-figure scorers for the Pirates.
