RFID (acronym)

Radio frequency identification — an evolving system of low-power radio signals to link two or more devices. Most RFID systems involve a passive unit with a chip that stores and processes information and active units that have some form of antenna for transmitting a signal.

RFID tags can be the size of a pencil point, or smaller in some systems.
