Lagried leads Spokane
Greg Lagried drove in three runs, including a two-run homer to left field in the third inning, and the Spokane RiverHawks edged the Wenatchee AppleSox 4-3 Saturday to open a three-game series at Gonzaga University’s Patterson Baseball Complex.
Mike Richard (1-0) pitched five solid innings in his first start of the year and Jake Hiatt stranded the potential tying run at third base in the ninth to earn the save.
Lagried, hitting .328, also had a run-scoring single in the first.
Spokane (7-11) broke a three-game losing streak and snapped a six-game winning streak for Wenatchee (14-4), which owns a comfortable lead in the West Coast Collegiate Baseball League’s East Division.
