Fishing rules for PDO River

The Spokesman-Review

While many miles of shoreline and sloughs along the Pend Oreille River are open to public fishing, the waters along the Kalispel Indian Reservation have restrictions.

“All of the reservation waters for about 11 miles on the east side of the river are closed to non-tribal members,” said Joe Maroney, tribal fisheries manager. On the west side, non-tribal anglers can fish the reservation’s Calispell Creek Slough (near Cusick) with a tribal fishing permit,” Maroney said.

The $10 permits, plus tribal regulations and a map are available at the Panther Pit in Cusick.

A Washington State fishing license also is required for non-tribal members while fishing in Calispell Slough and other Pend Oreille River waters in Washington.

The state currently has no size or catch limits on northern pike.
