Bruttles making TV debut on Friday

Lorie Hutson Food editor

Bruttles Candy Shoppe is ready for its close up.

The Spokane candy maker will be featured on Friday’s broadcast of the Rachael Ray show, which airs locally at 3 p.m. on KXLY Channel 4.

Show producers told Bruttles owner Carol Measel that the Food Network star, cookbook author and magazine editor will highlight Bruttles on the show, pass out bags of the soft peanut brittle squares to the audience and link to the Bruttles Web site from her home page.

Producers contacted Measel in mid-February to tell her that the candies would be featured on the show and they have been making Bruttles like crazy to get ready for orders. More than 2.5 million people tune into the show each day. Bruttles, a play on peanut butter and peanut brittle, are 1-inch squares of the candy maker’s signature soft peanut brittle partially dipped in semisweet chocolate.

“We’re kind of holding our breath here,” said Measel.
