In brief: Police seek witness to hit-and-run

The Spokesman-Review

Spokane police are looking for information about a hit-and-run collision that seriously injured an 18-year-old man.

Medics found the victim unconscious on the sidewalk at Third Avenue and Washington Street about 1:30 a.m. March 18, according to police.

A witness told medics a brown SUV hit the man and drove away, but medics didn’t tell police until the witness had left, Officer Teresa Fuller said.

Police want to talk to the witness and anyone else who may have information about the collision.

The victim suffered several broken bones and a large head cut, according to police.

Anyone with information on the case should call Cpl. Dave Adams at (509) 835-4567.

Private dock’s OK being appealed

Two children’s camps and nearby landowners are appealing a state decision to allow a 12-slip private dock on Lake Coeur d’Alene.

In February the Idaho Department of Lands approved the community dock requested by the Mica View Estates Homeowners Association.

Camp Lutherhaven, Camp Sweyolakan, the Mica Shores Property Association and other residents and neighborhood groups appealed the decision this week to 1st District Court, arguing the subdivision doesn’t have the right to build a dock because it doesn’t have direct access to the water except through one unbuildable shoreline lot. The proposed community dock would be in Mica Bay, adjacent to Kootenai County’s Gould’s Landing boat launch.

“This is an effort to challenge the whole idea,” attorney Scott Reed said. “Do we really want to give docks to people who don’t have riparian rights on the water?”

Dallas, Ore.

Man arrested for ad to sell baby

Authorities arrested an Oregon man accused of advertising that an infant was for sale.

The Salem Police Department said Patrick Lee Ryan of Dallas recently posted the item on Craiglist, an online network of classified ads and forums. The listing gave a name for interested parties to contact for further information.

Lt. Dave Okada said the listing included the name of a real person, but that person does not have a baby and had no involvement with the ad.

Okada said Ryan obtained a baby’s photo off the Internet, and the 33-year-old also does not have an infant. Ryan was charged Wednesday with buying or selling a child, disorderly conduct and computer crime. He was booked at the Polk County Jail on $35,000 bail.
