Bainbridge hires EV coach
Steve Henderson, four year boys basketball coach at East Valley, has resigned to become the new coach at Bainbridge High School on Bainbridge Island in the Puget Sound.
He replaces Scott Orness, who coached Bainbridge for seven years, including a State 3A title appearance. Henderson, an EV graduate, was 18-65 during his coaching tenure.
Henderson said that finding a teaching position factored in his decision.
“I’d been there four years and was not even full time,” he said.
He also noted that being at a school with a strong wrestling program and in a league like the GSL made coaching basketball a constant battle.
“Last week has been such a whirlwind,” Henderson said. “It seems like a good situation. It’s like going into a Class B town. You’re isolated on the Island. The community is great, the parents and kids were great. I’m really excited.”
