Vandals use height edge to cruise in exhibition

Brandon Wiley led Idaho with 21 points and eight rebounds and the Vandals shot 60 percent from the floor in cruising to a 106-40 basketball win over Walla Walla University in an exhibition Wednesday night in Moscow, Idaho.

The Vandals’ defense held the Wolves to nine second-half points. All 11 eligible Idaho players saw action, with six scoring in double figures.

Marvin Jefferson added 16 points, 14 coming off dunks, and eight rebounds as the Vandals used their height advantage to outrebound the Wolves 45-16, including 22 offensive rebounds.

Idaho begins its regular season at home on Nov. 16 against Evergreen State at 7:05 p.m.

Golf

Derek Wallace of UNC-Wilmington shot an 8-under-par 64 in the final round to capture a one-stroke victory and the University of San Diego finished 39 under to win the team title in the Kauai Collegiate Invitational in Lihue, Kauai.

Gonzaga’s Bowdy Ehler shot a final-round 73 to finish 15th.

Volleyball

Nicole Solum began Community Colleges of Spokane’s match with four aces and the Sasquatch continued to roll as they beat host Columbia Basin 25-21, 25-13, 25-16 in Pasco.

Solum led the Sasquatch (27-18, 7-5 NWAACC) with six aces and eight kills in the win.

The Sasquatch’s Nicole Graybeal added 12 blocks.

Lauren Williamson led the Hawks (22-17, 8-4) with 14 assists and Megan Riese had 13 digs.

The win puts CCS one game out of second place in the East Region with two league matches remaining.

•Alex Graves led Whitman with 17 kills and 20 digs as the Missionaries upset host Whitworth 13-25, 25-23, 26-24, 25-19 in Northwest Conference play.

Katie Miller added 15 kills and 22 digs for Whitman (3-21, 3-12).

Senior Bethany Riddle led the Pirates (13-14, 6-9) with 29 digs.
