Klitschko real diaper dandy

Vitali Klitschko used his son’s wet, used diapers to keep his fists from swelling up after winning his WBC heavyweight title bout against Nigeria’s Samuel Peter, the Ukrainian told a German newspaper Tuesday.

Klitschko said he wrapped them around his hands and they helped him recover.

“Baby wee is good because it’s pure, doesn’t contain toxins and doesn’t smell,” the 37-year old boxer told Bild after he won back the WBC title with a technical knockout Saturday.

“I wrap nappies filled with my 3-year-old son Max’s wee around my fists,” Klitschko said, adding that he got the idea from his grandmother. “The nappies hold the liquid and the swelling stays down.”

Vandals picked to finish last

The University of Idaho men’s team was selected to finish last in its fourth season in the Western Athletic Conference as voted by the media and the conference head coaches.

Nevada, the 2007-08 WAC regular-season co-champion, received seven first-place votes and 63 points to rank first in the coaches’ poll. Utah State captured second place with 57 points, receiving two first-place votes. New Mexico State took third place with 48 points. With 43 points, San Jose State was voted fourth. Boise State (30) and Louisiana Tech (29) followed closely behind in fifth and sixth place. Hawaii (25) and Fresno State (20) finished seventh and eighth, respectively, while Idaho (nine) was ranked ninth.

The media also tabbed Nevada as the favorite as it received 255 points and 20 first-place votes. Utah State was picked second with 220 points and four first-place votes. New Mexico State garnered 201 points and two first-place votes for third place, followed by Louisiana Tech with 149 points. Boise State was fifth with three first-place votes and 142 points followed by San Jose State with a first-place vote and 132 points. Fresno State was seventh with 114 points, followed by Hawaii (103) and Idaho (34).

Kitna done for the season

Jon Kitna’s season is over for the winless Detroit Lions.

The Lions (0-5) placed the starting quarterback on the season-ending injured reserve list.

There had been speculation the Lions might trade Kitna and rely instead on backups Dan Orlovsky and Drew Stanton. But a trade didn’t happen.

Kitna, the former Central Washington University standout and starter with the Seattle Seahawks, suffered a back injury in a loss to Chicago two weeks ago. He did not play last week against Minnesota.

Orlovsky played in Kitna’s place against the Vikings. He is expected to make his second career start at Houston on Sunday.
