GU women fall in double OT
The Gonzaga women’s soccer team lost 2-1 to Loyola Marymount in double overtime Sunday at Gonzaga Soccer Field.
Christi D’Agostino ended a four-match scoreless streak for the Zags (5-9-2, 0-3-3 WCC) just over 16 minutes into the game with her second goal of the season. The Lions (7-5-3, 2-1-0) evened the score three minutes later on Erin Rementer’s goal.
LMU won the match with Kristen Garcia’s goal 2:12 into the final overtime session.
•Ellen Seagraves had a goal and an assist to lead Whitworth to a 4-1 win over Linfield in Spokane, giving the 16th-ranked Pirates (10-3-1, 6-3-1 NWC) a sweep of the season series with the Wildcats (4-10, 2-8). Elizabeth Matilla, Lindsey Oakes and Allie Smith also scored for Whitworth.
•Lyndsey Martin scored the first goal of her career, but Eastern (2-10-3, 0-3-1 Big Sky) lost to Portland State (4-9-3, 3-0-1) 4-1 in Portland.
•Lindsay Taylor scored twice as No. 2 Stanford (14-0-1, 4-4-0 Pac-10) beat Washington State (7-4-4, 1-2-1) 3-0 in Pullman.
•Boise State scored the only goal of the game less than two minutes in as the Broncos (8-5-2, 1-1-1 WAC) defeated Idaho (1-12-2, 0-2-1) 1-0 in Moscow.
•Veronica Perez tied the game in the 75th minute, then delivered the game-winner in the 83rd minute as Washington beat No. 13 California 3-2 in Seattle. The Huskies (10-5-0, 1-3-0 Pac-10) snapped a four-game losing streak. The Golden Bears dropped to 9-5-0, 2-2-0.
Men’s soccer
Elly Bulega scored with 1:37 to play to give Whitworth a 2-1 come-from-behind win over Linfield in Spokane.
The 22nd-ranked Pirates (11-2-1, 7-2 NWC) remained atop the conference standings, one point ahead of Whitman.
Caleb Barnhill scored Whitworth’s first goal and assisted on the game-winner. Kurtis Wong scored for Linfield (6-8, 2-7).
•Raphael Cox scored the golden goal game-winner in the 94th minute as Washington beat San Diego State 2-1 in San Diego. The win helped the Huskies (8-4-1, 3-1-1 Pac-10) maintain their conference lead at the midpoint of Pac-10 play.
Brent Richards also scored for Washington. Khadim Diouf scored for the Aztecs (3-7-2, 1-2-2).
Volleyball
No. 6 Oregon swept Washington State 25-17, 25-20, 25-12 on Sunday in Pullman.
Neticia Enesi and Gorana Maricic combined for 23 kills for Oregon (15-4, 4-3 Pac-10). Washington State (7-12, 0-8) was led by Cassie Robbins’ eight kills.
•Seventh-ranked Washington swept No. 25 Oregon State 25-14, 25-21, 25-12 on Sunday in Seattle. The Huskies (15-3, 6-2 Pac-10) have won four consecutive matches. The Beavers fell to 13-7, 2-5.
Golf
Whitworth’s women’s team won a major Northwest Conference tournament for the first time, winning the NWC Fall Classic at Juniper Golf Course in Redmond, Ore. The Pirates finished at 698, 14 strokes ahead of Pacific.
Whitworth’s Liz Martin was third overall with a two-day total of 169.
•Whitworth freshman Jeff Aly had a two-day total of 151, good for eighth place overall, at the men’s NWC Fall Classic at Canyon Lakes Golf Course in Kennewick. The Pirates finished fourth, 35 strokes behind first-place Linfield.
Junior hockey
Tyler Mort scored with 7:56 left as the Spokane Braves beat the Summerland Sting 3-2 in Summerland, British Columbia. It was coach Mike Bay’s 200th win with the Braves in his eighth season.
Conner Olstad and Shane Horlacher also scored for Spokane.
Rowing
The University of Washington overcame gusty crosswinds Sunday to capture the men’s championship eights, the featured race on the second day of competition at the 44th annual Head of the Charles Regatta in Cambridge, Mass.
Washington edged the French national team, rowing as Pole France Aviron Nancy, by 2 1/2 seconds in 14 minutes, 28 seconds on the three-mile upstream course. Brown University actually had the second-best time, but a one-minute penalty pushed the Bruins back to 24th.
