Hawks handle Indians

BOISE – Ryan Searle pitched five hitless shutout innings before yielding to his bullpen and the Boise Hawks beat the Spokane Indians 3-1 in Northwest League play on Sunday.

Searle (1-2) struck out two and walked two while lowering his ERA to 1.03.

Boise’s Kyler Burke singled with two outs in the bottom of the second inning, went to second on a bases-on-balls and scored on an error to give the Hawks a 1-0 lead.

Boise (43-30) added two runs in the sixth inning. Burke tripled in one run and came around to score again on a balk call with the bases loaded.

Spokane (48-25) scored its run in the eighth inning when Eric Fry singled to score Kyle Higgins with none out.

Spokane has already clinched the division championship.
