Lobbestael player of week
Washington State quarterback Marshall Lobbestael played just two quarters Saturday, but his efforts earned him Pac-10 player of the week honors.
Lobbestael, a redshirt freshman from Oak Harbor, Wash., who had thrown only two passes all year, came off the bench to lead Washington State to a 48-9 win against Portland State. He entered after starting quarterback Kevin Lopina and backup Gary Rogers were both hurt.
Lobbestael’s first two passes went for touchdowns covering 14 and 53 yards. He ended up completing 9 of 12 passes for 149 yards, the two touchdowns and no interceptions.
Arizona defensive back Corey Hall and Arizona return man Mike Thomas were also honored. They played key roles in a 31-10 road win at UCLA.

Pirates QB Kemp lost for season
Whitworth senior quarterback Kory Kemp suffered a broken bone in his lower leg in Saturday’s 38-7 non-conference loss at Redlands and will miss the rest of the season, head coach John Tully said.
Kemp, who helped the Pirates win the Northwest Conference last season, was injured in the second quarter.
“It was just a bootleg and he went down awkwardly,” Tully said. “He’s like any other kid in that situation. He’d like to be able to play but he can’t.”
Kemp was replaced by junior Mike Peck, who went 5 of 15 for 95 yards with one touchdown and one interception. The Pirates (1-1) also have two freshman quarterbacks – Rogers High product Andrew Durant and Cub Jansen, from Kamiak High in Mukilteo, Wash.
