Rain douses Indians

Wednesday night’s Northwest League baseball game between the Salem-Keiser Volcanoes and Spokane Indians was suspended with two outs in the bottom of the fourth inning because of heavy rain and lightning.

Spokane, on the strength of Jason Ogata’s two-run homer in the bottom of fourth, was leading 2-1 when officials made the decision to suspend the game following a delay of almost 11/2 hours.

The suspended game will resume tonight at Avista Stadium, starting at 5:30, with gates opening at 4:30. Following the completion of that nine-inning game, there will be a 30-minute break to allow groundskeepers to refresh the field before the start of the regularly scheduled game between the same teams.

Tonight’s regularly schedule game will be shortened to seven innings.

Spokane leads the series 1-0 and the season series 5-1.

Fans can exchange their tickets from Wednesday’s suspended game for tonight’s game or another other 2009 home game, based on availability.
