Indicted A convicted felon accused of selling the gun used to kill ex-NFL quarterback Steve McNair has been indicted on a firearm charge. A federal grand jury in Nashville, Tenn., on Wednesday charged Adrian J. Gilliam Jr. with one count of being a felon in possession of a firearm. Gilliam is accused of selling a loaded 9 mm pistol to McNair’s mistress, Sahel Kazemi, for $100 two days before McNair was shot. Police said the 20-year-old waitress shot McNair at his downtown condo July 4 before turning the gun on herself.
Presented A grand jury is expected to decide next week whether Chicago Blackhawks forward Patrick Kane should face criminal charges after a dispute that left a cab driver in his hometown of Buffalo, N.Y., bruised and with broken glasses. The Erie County District Attorney’s Office presented the case to a grand jury on Thursday.
Signed Florida State signed men’s basketball coach Leonard Hamilton to a new five-year contract that will pay him $1.5 million a year with potential bonuses of another half million dollars.
•The Philadelphia 76ers signed center Primoz Brezec, who played in Europe last season. Terms of the deal weren’t immediately disclosed by the Sixers. The 7-foot-1 Brezec has played in 321 games with 214 starts in seven NBA seasons with Indiana, Charlotte, Detroit and Toronto. He has averaged 7.6 points and 4.1 rebounds.
Traded The Anaheim Ducks acquired right wing Evgeny Artyukhin from the Tampa Bay Lightning for left wing Drew Miller and a third-round selection in the 2010 NHL draft.
•Quentin Richardson was traded for the fourth time since the end of last season, moving from the Minnesota Timberwolves to the Miami Heat in exchange for center Mark Blount.
Agreed Montreal mayor Gerald Tremblay says a tentative deal has been reached to return Formula One racing to the city in 2010. The race date and other details still have to be worked out.
Died Skate park designer Andy Kessler, a trailblazer during New York City’s nascent 1970s skateboarding scene who was admired by boarders on both coasts, died Monday. He was 48. Kessler died after suffering a heart attack following an allergic reaction to a wasp sting, Moose Huerta, a close friend and fellow skateboarder, said.
