Arrested Top-ranked Florida will be without one of its best pass rushers against No. 2 Alabama in the Southeastern Conference championship game. Defensive end Carlos Dunlap was arrested early Tuesday in Gainesville, Fla., and charged with driving under the influence, just days before the biggest game of the season. Suspended Reigning two-time MVP Alex Ovechkin’s latest on-ice indiscretion netted him a two-game suspension, a sore right knee and a new level of concern from his coach about his “pretty reckless” ways. Ovechkin was suspended for two games without pay by the NHL for a knee-to-knee hit on defenseman Tim Gleason in Washington’s 3-2 win over the Carolina Hurricanes on Monday.

Released The Atlanta Falcons have released kicker Jason Elam. Elam, a 17-year veteran, missed only two kicks last season, his first with the Falcons. But he struggled this year, making only 8 of 15 field-goal attempts from at least 30 yards. Matt Bryant was signed to replace Elam.

Coach Jeff Tedford said that Best is doing well in his recovery, but there has been no talk about when he might return to the field.

Traded The Cleveland Indians traded catcher Kelly Shoppach to the Tampa Bay Rays for a player to be determined. He batted just .214 with 12 homers and 40 RBIs in 89 games last season.
