Warming centers open tonight

The Spokesman-Review
The emergency warming centers at the Spokane Salvation Army, 204 E. Indiana, and House of Charity, 32 W. Pacific, will open tonight. Families with children and couples without children will be welcome at the Salvation Army. The House of Charity center is open to single men. Both will open at 8 p.m. today and will remain open until 7 a.m. Sunday. The warming centers are activated by the city of Spokane when temperatures are predicted to be 15 degrees or lower and when homeless shelters were full in the previous 24 hours. The centers are designed to shelter the homeless from the cold temperatures for brief intervals. They are not set up for lodging. Two centers in Coeur d’Alene, St. Vincent de Paul and Fresh Start, have announced plans to open nightly through at least Tuesday.
