NIC outduels Northwest
Jesse Nielsen (165 pounds) and Celic Bell (184) each recorded second-round pins and the North Idaho wrestling team dropped just three matches Friday to beat Northwest College 29-11 in Coeur d’Alene.
Adding five points for the Cardinals (8-2) was Joey Peirtti (157), who earned a technical fall over Briston Brenton 17-2.
Men’s basketball
Wil Carter’s 19 points and 17 rebounds led Salt Lake CC (10-3, 3-2) to an 89-84 victory over North Idaho (10-2, 3-2) in Salt Lake City.
•Community Colleges of Spokane had its opening round game of the Dale J. Bates Invitational against Linn-Benton postponed because of freezing rain. The game will be made up at 4 p.m. today in Eugene, Ore.
Hockey
Ryan Hadley-Schaal had two goals and six players scored goals as the Spokane Braves (20-13-0-2) beat Grand Forks (3-25-0-1) 7-2 in KIJHL play at Eagles Ice-A-Rena.
Football
Whitworth players Brandon Martin and Zack Clow have been named to the D3football.com All-West Region football team.
Martin, a senior defensive tackle, and Clow, a junior punter, both made the third team.
Women’s soccer
Three Whitworth players have been named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) All-Region Team.
Sophomore defender Anisa Babar and senior midfielder Lindsey Oakes were selected to the second team.
Senior defender Miranda Cosand is a third-team pick.
Men’s soccer
Senior forward Elly Bulega leads a group of five Whitworth players named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) All-Region Team.
Bulega was the lone Pirate named to the first team. Senior defender Bryan Olson and sophomore midfielder Justin Meyer made the second team. Senior forward Keith Kirsch and sophomore goalie Brian Sherpe made the third team.
