EWU Eagles misfire on road

Brianne Ryan had a double-double and Julie Piper was two rebounds shy, but poor shooting doomed Eastern Washington in a 58-55 non-league women’s basketball loss at Cal State Fullerton Monday night.

Piper had a team-high 13 points and eight rebounds and Ryan had 12 points and 10 rebounds, but the Eagles shot just 38.5 percent from the field, hitting just 1 of 12 3-point attempts.

Still the Eagles (6-6) had a chance to send the game to overtime, but Chene Cooper’s 3-pointer at the buzzer failed to fall.

Eastern, which never led, made it to the free throw line just seven times to 25 for the Titans (4-6), who also outrebounded the Eagles by 20. Eastern also committed 22 turnovers.
