Cheney surprises first-place Clarkston

DeAngelo Jones scored 18 points and hauled in 10 rebounds to lead the Cheney Blackhawks to a 59-51 Great Northern League boys basketball victory over the Clarkston Bantams Friday night at Cheney.

Mike Sprenger and Daniel Igbinoba had 12 points apiece.

The Bantams (12-6, 11-2), who got 15 points apiece from Dustin McConnell and Cody Brown, led 15-4 after one quarter.

But the Blackhawks (8-11, 6-7) battled back to take the lead at 40-39 after three quarters.

West Valley 55, Pullman 49: At West Valley, Jordan Lupfer-Graham scored 23 points and the Eagles (15-4, 11-2) upended the Greyhounds (13-5, 10-2) to move into a first-place tie with Clarkston.

Deer Park 67, Colville 57: At Deer Park, Dan Hutchinson had a triple-double with 21 points, 10 rebounds and 10 blocked shots and the Stags (3-16, 2-11) knocked off the Indians (7-12, 4-9).

Alias Pouty scored 16 and PJ Sager 15 for Colville.

Riverside 38, Medical Lake 33: At Riverside, Dustin Martin had 12 points and the Rams (5-13, 3-10) kept their district playoff hopes alive with a victory over the Cardinals (7-11, 4-8).

Ray Erwin scored 21 points for Riverside.

District 9 2B playoffs

Garfield-Palouse 84, Walla Walla Valley Academy 54: Michael Jacobs scored 20 points, Jordan Palmer had 17 and Tyson Palmer 13 and the Vikings (18-3) routed the Knights, who got 15 points from Michael Hanson.

Garfield-Palouse plays Waitsburg-Prescott Monday at Walla Walla Community College in a winner’s bracket game. WWVA plays Asotin in a loser-out game at Colfax today.

Waitsburg-Prescott beat Asotin 48-46 Friday.

Tekoa-Oakesdale 55, Dayton 45: At Tekoa, Casey Cook had 26 points and the Nighthawks (16-4) beat the Bulldogs.

Tekoa-Oakesdale will face Liberty Christian, an 81-23 winner over Pomeroy, on Monday at Walla Walla Community College. Dayton plays Pomeroy in a loser-out game today at Colfax High School.

District 9 1B playoffs

Rosalia 48, Touchet 31: At Endicott, Jim Maley and Nathan Richards scored 14 points apiece and the Spartans (16-6) clinched a state berth with a win over the Indians.

Touchet will play Tri-Cities Prep tonight for the second and final state berth.

Tri-Cities Prep 58, St. John-Endicott 43: Roy Mercado and Sergio Lopez scored 16 points apiece and the Jaguars kept their state tournament hopes alive with a victory over the Eagles.

St. John-Endicott was eliminated.
