Eastern Washington ends long drought at Weber

It’s been a long time coming.

Nicole Scott came off the bench to score a game-high 20 points and Julie Piper notched a double-double – 12 points, 10 rebounds – to help the Eastern Washington Eagles beat Weber State 82-68 and end a 22-game Big Sky Conference losing streak to the Wildcats in Ogden, Utah.

Brianne Ryan chipped in 15 points and eight rebounds for the Eagles (8-9, 3-1), who last won at Weber State on Feb. 13, 1988.

Tonya Schnibbe (University High) topped the Wildcats (5-10, 0-3) with 18 points.

Gonzaga 60, Portland 49: Courtney Vandersloot tossed in 19 points and handed out nine assists, Heather Bowman scored 15 and Vivian Frieson snared 13 rebounds to propel the Bulldogs (13-4) to a victory over the Pilots (7-8) in a West Coast Conference opener in Portland.

The four-time defending WCC champion Bulldogs won their conference opener for the sixth straight season and beat Portland for the 16th straight time.

(11) Stanford 102, Washington State 53: Jayne Appel had 16 points, four rebounds and three assists in limited action, Jeanette Pohlen added 18 points and the Cardinal (13-3, 4-0) routed the visiting Cougars (7-7, 0-3) at Stanford, Calif.

April Cook and Jazmine Perkins each scored 14 for WSU.

Idaho 55, Fresno State 52: Yinka Olorunnife doubled up with 14 points and 14 rebounds and Shaena Kuehu scored 12 to help the Vandals (6-9, 3-1) stun the Bulldogs (11-5, 2-1) in Western Athletic Conference play in Fresno, Calif.

Idaho, picked to finish last in the WAC, held the defending conference champs to 20 points less than their scoring average.

Whitworth 61, Linfield 50: Liz Horiatis tallied 12 points and blocked four shots and Natalie Orrell and reserve Alida Bower each scored 11 to lead the Pirates (8-5, 2-2) past the host Wildcats (2-11, 1-3) in Northwest Conference action at McMinnville, Ore.

Big Bend 66, CC Spokane 58: Angela Fales totaled 18 points and eight rebounds to lead the visiting Vikings (11-3) over the Sasquatch (7-6) in an NWAACC opener at Spokane Falls Community College. Kami Clark scored 16 to pace CCS.
