Whitworth, NIC men triumph

Bo Gregg scored all 18 of his points during a decisive first half, including six 3-pointers in as many attempts, to lead the Whitworth Pirates past the George Fox Bruins 83-67 in Northwest Conference men’s basketball play Friday night at Newberg, Ore.

The Pirates (14-4, 6-3) made 56.7 percent (17 of 30) of their shots in the first half while cruising to a 47-31 lead. The Bruins led 16-15 when David Riley and Gregg hit back-to-back 3-pointers to put the Pirates up 21-16, a lead they would not relinquish.

Calvin Jurich had a double-double for the Pirates with 17 points and 11 rebounds. Ross Nakamura added 14 points and four assists while Riley finished with 11 points and six assists.

Alex Stockner paced George Fox (6-12, 2-7) with 16 points and six rebounds. Jack Martin had 10 points, eight assists and six rebounds.

Gregg had his second strong shooting game against the Bruins. On Jan. 2, he scored 15 points while making 5 of 7 3-pointers.

The Pirates shot 50 percent (29 of 58) from the field, including 11 of 23 (47.8 percent) from 3-point range. Whitworth outrebounded the Bruins 36-30.

North Idaho 69, CSI 67: Melvin Jones hit 6 of 9 3-pointers and scored 23 points to lead the nationally 18th-ranked North Idaho College Cardinals to a Scenic West Athletic Conference victory over the College of Southern Idaho Golden Eagles at Christianson Gym.

Shawn Henderson added 20 points and five assists for North Idaho (19-2, 4-2), while Renado Parker had 14 points.

Jay Watkins paced Southern Idaho (16-5, 3-3) with 16 points and 13 rebounds. Aziz Ndiaye and Byago Diouf added 13 points apiece and Cheyne Martin had 10 points. Ndiaye added 10 rebounds.

Stats for the game were remarkably even. Southern Idaho was 26 of 59 from the floor, while North Idaho was 26 of 58. The Cardinals made one more 3-pointer on two fewer attempts and were 9 of 16 from the line. The Golden Eagles were 8 of 16 from the line.

Women

George Fox 77, Whitworth 46: Kristen Shielee and Sage Indendi scored 16 points apiece and the seventh-ranked Bruins (18-0, 9-0) routed the cold-shooting Pirates (11-7, 5-4) in Northwest Conference play at Newberg, Ore.

George Fox made 30 of 56 field goals (53.6 percent) while Whitworth managed a 16-for-57 performance (28.1 percent).

Kim Bluff scored 13 points and Alida Bower had 11 for the Pirates.

Elise Kuenzi added 15 points and Keisha Gordon 13 for the Bruins.

North Idaho 59, Southern Idaho 58: Lindsay Wimett had 15 points and Bianca Cheever chipped in 12 points, 10 rebounds and six steals to lead the Cardinals past the Golden Eagles at Christianson Gym.

Shaneya Valdez added 10 points for North Idaho (18-3, 5-1).

Shauneice Samms had 20 points and 10 rebounds and Soana Lucet had 15 points and 11 rebounds for Southern Idaho (16-4, 5-1).

Lacale Buchanan also scored 11 for the Golden Eagles.
