Leyritz out on bond
Former major leaguer Jim Leyritz was released on bond Monday, hours after a judge in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., ruled he would not have to await his upcoming DUI manslaughter trial in custody. Broward County Circuit Judge Marc Gold decided Leyritz, who was jailed earlier this month on a charge of domestic battery against his ex-wife, could be released once he posted the $1,000 bond. Under the terms of his release, Leyritz would be allowed to live in a friend’s unoccupied house in nearby Weston, and communication between the 45-year-old former ballplayer and his ex-wife must take place only through their lawyers. Leyritz was arrested July 2 in the Fort Lauderdale suburb of Davie and charged with domestic battery against his ex-wife Karrie. That was considered a violation of Leyritz’s release conditions, and his bond was revoked.
