Fined English star David Beckham was fined $1,000 by Major League Soccer, which said his gestures toward taunting fans suggested they leave their seats and come on the field. The fine by MLS commissioner Don Garber on Friday came five days after Beckham confronted Los Angeles Galaxy fans from a group called the L.A. Riot Squad. The Galaxy and AC Milan played to a 2-2 tie in an exhibition game. Beckham played with AC Milan this year and was booed through much of the game. Beckham has been unapologetic about his actions.

Signed The Portland Trail Blazers signed veteran free-agent guard Andre Miller to a three-year contract. Miller, whose NBA career has spanned 10 seasons with four teams, averaged 16.3 points and 6.5 assists as a starter for the Philadelphia 76ers last season. Miller joins point guards Steve Blake and Jerryd Bayless with the Blazers, the second-youngest team in the NBA last season. Portland won 54 games and advanced to the playoffs for the first time since 2003.

•Restricted free-agent forward Jamario Moon is joining the Cleveland Cavaliers. The Miami Heat said they had decided not to match the offer sheet Moon signed with Cleveland. The Cavaliers had roughly $3.2 million of their midlevel exception to sign the 6-foot-8 Moon.

Filed Florida State is back in court – suing the NCAA. The school said it wants the NCAA to pay its legal fees and other costs incurred in a suit filed against the university and the athletic governing body for failing to comply with Florida’s public records law. General counsel Betty Steffen said it has been technically impossible for the school to make records in the case public because an NCAA Web site prohibits downloading or printing.

Exited Argentina’s David Nalbandian and Mario Ancic of Croatia have withdrawn from the U.S. Open. The United States Tennis Association said the 15th-ranked Nalbandian is recovering from hip surgery and the 90th-ranked Ancic is battling mononucleosis.

Boosted Preakness winner Rachel Alexandra and Belmont Stakes winner Summer Bird will be racing for $1.25 million if they run in the Haskell Invitational at Monmouth Park next Saturday. The track on the New Jersey shore announced that it increased the purse for its biggest race by $250,000. The winner will now get $750,000. Arkansas Derby winner Papa Clem is also expected to run.

Born Swiss star Roger Federer is playing a different kind of doubles. Tennis’ top-ranked player became a father for the first time when his wife, Mirka, gave birth to twin girls in Geneva. The twins are named Charlene Riva and Myla Rose, and Federer said the girls and his wife are “doing great.”
