Titans score winner in 7th

University used a two-out rally in the bottom of the seventh inning Wednesday afternoon to break a tie and turn back visiting Mt. Spokane 6-5 in a Greater Spokane League softball game.

The Titans (4-0) used a double by Ali Warren, a single by Ashley Moon and a winning single by Breann Warren to keep their record unblemished. Alene Bether belted a solo home run in the first inning for U-Hi, while Taryn Russell stroked three hits and drove in a pair of runs for Mt. Spokane (2-1).

Also in the GSL, Justine Simpson ripped a three-run fifth-inning double and Tiffany Lucas struck out 10 and allowed only three hits as visiting East Valley (2-2) rolled to an 8-1 victory over Rogers (0-3). … Emily Ness drove in four runs – three on her bases-loaded triple in the fourth inning – and pitcher Kendall Pavey struck out eight and scattered four hits as Lewis and Clark (2-1) stormed to an 11-1 win over visiting Gonzaga Prep (0-3) at Hart Field. … Ferris’ Erica Santarossa struck out eight, tossed a three-hit shutout and drove in a pair of runs in leading the visiting Saxons (2-2) to a 12-0 victory over North Central (0-4). Nicole Nelson had a run-scoring double and two singles for the winners.

Inland Empire League: Lake City’s game at Coeur d’Alene was postponed because of poor weather. No makeup date was announced.

Baseball

Greater Spokane League: University’s Thomas Wakem stroked a two-run home run in the first inning and Billy Moon scattered 10 hits and struck out 15 as the Titans (3-0) kept their record unblemished by shoving aside Ferris 6-2 at Avista Stadium. The win kept U-Hi tied with Central Valley for first place in the standings. Ferris (1-2) outhit the Titans 10-7. … CV stayed tied with U-Hi by scoring twice in the top of the eighth inning to edge host Lewis and Clark 6-4 at Hart Field. The Bears were paced by Scott Simon, who belted a pair of doubles and drove in three runs. LC (1-2) allowed only six hits but was hurt by five errors. … Mt. Spokane’s Ryane Leonard scattered seven hits, struck out six, and backed up his strong pitching performance by belting three hits – including a triple – and driving in a run in an 8-3 win over host Gonzaga Prep. The Wildcats (1-2) also got three hits and an RBI from Nate Blackham, while David Nelson paced G-Prep (0-3) with a two-run homer in the first inning. … Grant Fink drove in four runs and scored four others and teammate Seth Peterson blasted a three-run homer to highlight a six-run seventh inning as visiting Mead (1-0) defeated Rogers 18-5. The Pirates (0-3) got four hits and an RBI from Jake Campbell, who also scored three runs.

Greater Spokane League: Lewis and Clark’s Mckenzie Olivares took a crossing pass from Casey Ames and scored on a header in the first minute of the game and the Tigers went on to post a 2-1 win over Mt. Spokane at Albi Stadium. LC got another goal from Olivares in the second half to offset a score by Jeremy Paulson that pulled Mt. Spokane even in the first period. … Visiting Central Valley got the winning goal from Blaze Vela in a shootout and edged Gonzaga Prep 1-0. The Bears outshot the Bullpups 18-5. … Jordan Etten scored two first-half goals in leading Mead to a 5-0 victory over North Central at Albi Stadium. The Panthers finished with a 17-3 edge in shots on goal. … University goaltender Aaron Rusch turned back 10 shots and Evan Frobe scored a pair of first-half goals as the unbeaten Titans tripped visiting Shadle Park 4-2. … Results of Rogers’ match at East Valley were not available.
