Daye suspended for scuffle
Basketball: Detroit Pistons forward Austin Daye and Milwaukee Bucks guard Carlos Delfino have each been suspended one game without pay for their roles in an altercation during the final minutes of Wednesday night’s NBA preseason game.
Daye, a rookie out of Gonzaga University, has been suspended for striking Delfino in the face. Delfino was suspended for retaliating by swinging at Daye.
The incident occurred with 34.1 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter of Detroit’s 113-104 win over Milwaukee in Auburn Hills, Mich.
Daye and Delfino will serve their suspensions with the first game of the regular season in which they are eligible and able to play.
After the game Wednesday night, Daye denied any wrongdoing.
“I have no idea what I got thrown out for – I was getting ready to shoot the technical free throws when they told me was I was gone,” Daye said. “I know I didn’t throw a punch – it would have been stupid to do that after Jonas got thrown out of the last game.”
Fellow rookie Jonas Jerebko was ejected in Monday’s win over Miami after a scuffle with Jamaal Magloire.

Transplant recipient finishes
Ironman: Kyle Garlett has fallen short in his attempt to become the first heart transplant triathlete to complete the Ironman World Championship.
The 38-year-old Garlett recorded a swim time of 2 hours, 21 minutes, 55 seconds Saturday in Hawaii. But the cut-off time for the 2.4-mile ocean swim was 2:20. Garlett is from Marina Del Rey, Calif.
Although he was disqualified from the race, the four-time cancer survivor said participating in the 140.6-mile endurance test was a thrill. It was three years to the day since he received his new heart.
The Ironman includes a 2.4-mile swim, 112-mile bike and a 26.2-mile run.
