Soccer: Brad Evans, who had an earlier goal nullified by an offsides call, scored the game-winner in the 84th minute Saturday night as the Seattle Sounders came from behind to beat FC Dallas 2-1 at Seattle in the regular-season finale for both teams.

While the Sounders (12-7-11) are the first MLS expansion team since the 1998 Chicago Fire to make the postseason, Dallas (11-13-6) saw its postseason hopes end.

With its 47 points, Seattle is second in the Western Conference, two points ahead of Houston and Chivas USA. Playoff pairings, sites and dates won’t be determined until today’s games are completed.

Peters wins trucks race at Martinsville: Timothy Peters took the lead when Denny Hamlin pitted on the 117th lap and won the NASCAR Truck Series race at Martinsville Speedway in Martinsville, Va.

It is the first career victory for Peters, who lives in nearby Danville. Peters stopped just once in the 200-lap race, after just 33 laps, and led the final 84 laps, holding off Todd Bodine.

Matteson takes lead with second 61

Golf: Troy Matteson had never shot a 61 until this week. Now he’s done it twice in a row to set a PGA Tour record.

Webb Simpson, Tim Clark and Chris Stroud were tied at 13 under. Nicholas Thompson had a double eagle on the par-5 11th, followed by a hole-in-one on the par-3 13th, a drop of five shots in three holes. He finished with a 65 to reach 11 under.

Bean, Cochran share second-round lead at AT&T: Russ Cochran birdied three straight holes before a bogey on the 18th dropped him into a tie for the lead with Andy Bean at 8-under 134 after the second round at the Champions Tour AT&T Championship at San Antonio.

Cochran, a first-round co-leader, shot a 3-under 68 at Oak Hills Country Club. Bean birdied the 15th and 16th holes before he parred out for 67.

Jay Haas was at 7 under after a bogey-free 4-under 67. Jeff Sluman (67) and Tom Kite (69) were another shot back.

Every leads Nationwide Tour finale: Matt Every made a 15-foot birdie putt on the final hole for a 5-under 67 and a one-stroke lead over money leader Michael Sim after the third round of the season-ending Nationwide Tour Championship at Charleston, S.C.

Every, 49th on the money list, is trying to move into the final top 25 – the cutoff for 2010 PGA Tour cards. Alex Prugh (Ferris High) shot a 2-under 70 in the third round, and sits tied for 20th at a 4-under 212 overall entering today’s final round.

Poutiainen wins ski opener in Austria

Miscellany: Tanja Poutiainen of Finland won the opening race of the ski season, edging Kathrin Zettel of Austria by 0.01 second in the giant slalom on the Rettenbach glacier.

Two-time defending overall World Cup champion Lindsey Vonn placed ninth.

Plushenko wins Grand Prix; Weir finishes fourth: Evgeni Plushenko of Russia won gold at the Rostelecom Cup in Moscow after a soaring free skate in his first international event since becoming Olympic champion at the 2006 Turin Games.

Miki Ando of Japan prevailed in the women’s event, while Ashley Wagner of the United States rose from fifth after the short program to take silver. Alena Leonova of Russia, the world juniors champion, took bronze for her first Grand Prix medal.

Plushenko performed only one quad, limited by his old standards, but combined it with a triple toeloop to open his program with unquestionable brio.

Takahiko Kozuka of Japan took silver and Artem Borodulin of Russia won bronze, his first Grand Prix medal. American Johnny Weir had an error-filled program that dropped him to sixth place in the free skate and fourth overall.

Brandon Mroz of the United States was fourth in the free skate and finished seventh overall.

The Rostelecom Cup is the second of six International Skating Union Grand Prix stages.
